Today, approximately 42-45% of first marriages in the United States end in divorce… and this does not include legal separations, or when a married couple may formalize a de facto separation while remaining legally married.
When breaking down the numbers further, 60% of second marriages end in divorce, adding to the speculation that divorce is a common experience for most Americans.
Research has found that the most common reasons for divorce are: lack of commitment, too much arguing, infidelity, marrying too young, unrealistic expectations, lack of equality, lack of preparation, and abuse.
However, there are some stories that will leave you surprised and in disbelief.
Here Are 3 Strange Divorce Stories You Haven’t Heard About:
- The secret stash: according to a paralegal on Reddit, two 20 somethings were incompatible because the husband kept smoking his wife’s weed stash when she wasn’t home. He started lying to her, saying she had smoked it all the night before, but when she began to realize his deceit- he continued to do it anyway despite her intolerance for the behavior.
- OCD to the max: the client of the attorney who told this story, was the outrageous one, and apparently had severe OCD, which primarily manifested with finances. The husband/father made his wife and children live a penny-pinching hell; obsessed with avoiding unnecessary spending to the point he wouldn’t let the family do normal activities such as: going to the movies, going to a restaurant, or even going to the bathroom normally. He essentially would make his family ask for a square of toilet paper from a roll he kept on him at all times, and this traumatized the daughter so much so the mother couldn’t potty train her properly. Needless to say, the wife got fed up and left him. In the end, the man hated even paying for his divorce-bill and viewed the attorney’s job as an unnecessary expense.
- NASCAR rivals: an attorney had to help his friends get a divorce because the wife hated Dale Earnhardt and the husband hated Jeff Gordon.
