To put it bluntly: workplace discrimination is a common case. Fortunately, discrimination is against the law and there are steps you can take to make sure your rights are protected.
What is it?
Employment Discrimination is a form bias in hiring, promotion, job assignment, termination, compensation, retaliation, and various types of harassment. Discrimination can be based on race, gender, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Most individuals who face discrimination don’t take action, but if you are being discriminated against in the workplace, continue reading.
How can it be handled?
If you want to advance a discrimination claim, you must remove all feelings and hunches, and focus on the facts and details. You can’t just say that your manager is being mean, that’s not concrete evidence.
Next, keep records of the offensive behavior, which includes noting the time, date, location, and the names of the people who witnessed the incident along with the description of what had occurred. At this time you should also be considering alternatives: another employer or working with your current one to help solve the problem.
Once you have enough facts, report the discrimination to your company’s management and contact an attorney or the EEOC.
